Wanted: Musician to help the teachers with their own learning
MK Music Service has made a commitment to furthering the teacher training at Mansek.
The Three most experienced teachers at Mansek are all very good natural musicians,
having grown up singing and playing, but their knowledge of western classical music
is still limited.
Each time we visit we run a dedicated teacher workshop and take specific targets.
In the past three workshops we have covered:
Styles of teaching and learning
Assessment
Good practice habits
Understanding minor scales
Grade 5 theory
Setting up and conducting a beginner orchestra
When we (staff from MK Music Service in the UK) visit, between us we can teach strings
/ woodwind / keyboard and sometimes brass. We aim to leave the teachers a little
further forward each time in their own practical skills and set them up with plenty
to practice for next time! Our visits are once or twice a year for maximum of 10
days.
The three teachers all have Grade 5 practical ABRSM in their main instrument, and
are working hard to gain Grade 5 theory in March 2009. They all wish to take Grade
6 practical in June 2009 and will benefit enormously from some on the spot help and
advice.
We visit when we can, but for any one to take Grade 6 in an unfamiliar musical style
with the maximum of 2 weeks tuition is a big ask!!
Any musician visiting and passing on their own knowledge of western music is of huge
benefit to the teachers. Whatever your instrument you can help with the basic understanding
of style and performance throughout the history of western music. You can aid with
learning scales and the aural requirements of the higher grades and generally offer
moral support!
